Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
If you happen to be passing the Willow Brook Centre in Bradley Stoke you may have noticed that South Gloucestershire Council has started work on a new Cycling City route in Bradley Stoke (route 3).
This route will take cyclists from Bradley Stoke leisure centre to the ticket office at Parkway Station connecting the local schools and residents to the facilities, including the Willow Brook Centre.
Work is also due to start shortly on route 4 which will go from the Mall at Cribbs Causeway to Bradley Stoke. The route will link up existing pathways and use quiet roads, taking cyclists through a nature reserve at Gorse Covert and Patchway Common.
Both of these routes will result in a pleasant journey for leisure rides, school pupils and commuters.
The routes will connect the green spaces to all major facilities such as:
The construction of the routes includes widening existing footways and introducing level crossing points to ensure a safe and easy journey. A clearer signing system and new cycle parking will also be installed along the routes.
Routes 3 and 4 will mean that Bradley Stoke is much more accessible to those on bikes and the leisure rider will no longer be restricted by busy roads.
Further information and a map of route 3 can be found here.
