Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
Following the huge success of our previous cycle events, Temwa are organising another sponsored cycle ride taking place on Saturday 18th September.
The route will be circular and will cover roughly 65 miles; starting in Bristol and taking in the beautiful countryside around South Gloucestershire and Somerset including the Avon and Cheddar Gorges and Chew Valley Lake. More information about the route will appear on our website soon.
The ride will take place over the whole day and will finish up back in Bristol in the evening where we will gather at a local pub to rest our weary limbs and enjoy some food and refreshments!
If you're up for the challenge and want a fun and exhilarating day out in aid of a very good cause please contact Charlie at cnkfear@hotmail.com
The Route:
We will be meeting outside Bristol Temple Meads railway station in the morning (time TBC).
The route starts along the Avon Cycle Path (also the National Cycle Network route 41) and will take us north through the city centre, through the Avon Gorge, along the River Avon. We'll pass through Pill, Easton-in-Gordano and Portbury and continue along this B-road, which runs parallel to the M5. We'll follow this path until Clevedon where
we'll skirt the town and start heading south, to Kenn and eventually onto Yatton.
At Yatton we'll join the Strawberry Line, which is an 8 mile traffic-free path that will take us down to Cheddar. At Cheddar, we'll ride through the Gorge along the B3135 to a village called Priddy. At Priddy we'll join the NCN route 3, which will take us up through the Chew Valley, passing lovely little villages along the way (Hinton Blewett and Stanton Drew). At Pensford we'll start heading north to join the Whitchurch Railway Path which will take us back into the city centre and to the finish line.
Maps covering most of the route will be given out at the beginning of the ride.
PLEASE NOTE: It's going to be a challenging route with undulating terrain. Although we have tried to keep as much of it to quiet roads/ cycle paths, there will also be some riding on main roads. All in all it's approx 65 miles so a moderate level of fitness is a must.
