Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall were in Bristol today (Tues, 7 Sept) to open the Start Living Advice Centre in Cabot Circus.
Ed Plowden, Cycling City team manager, and Sara Sanders, roadshow team manager, were given a few minutes to speak to the Royal delegates, giving them the low-down on Greater Bristol's Cycling City project.
The Prince spoke to Ed about the numbers of cyclists now in the city, as well as the 'hard' and 'soft' initiatives under the Cycling City project.
Ed explained how the project is improving cycle paths and building new cycle lanes in the city, plus working with schools, business and neighbourhoods to encourage more people to take to their bikes.
The Prince was enthused by the roadshow trike, appearing genuinely surprised when Sara told him how she rides it through the streets of Bristol.
Prince Charles wished the project success before adding that he hoped the trike didn't make Sara saddle sore!
The Start Living Advice Centre in Cabot Circus is one of a national chain of drop-in centres offering information on how individuals and firms can reduce their impact on the environment.
The centres are part of a national initiative led by the Prince of Wales.
Bristol's Start Living Centre can be found at 88 Glass Walk (3rd Floor), Cabot Circus.
