Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
As Christmas compilations are flooding the TV schedules right now we thought we'd give you some of our own favourite clips from the world of professional cycling.
The story that grabbed the most column inches was Mark Cavendish's record-breaking ride in this year's Tour de France. Check out this clip of all six wins...
Although we didn't see a Brit walk away with the Tour de France winners medal (better luck next year Wiggins), several British cyclists did end this year as a champion. Steve Peat finally won the World Downhill Mountain Bike title after previously claiming four silver medals in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2008. Don't try this at home (go to Ashton Court instead!).
By virtue of his dedication to being in the saddle as often as possible, I think it's fair enough to consider Mark Beaumont a professional cyclist. Mark broke the record for cycling around the world in 2008. Between 2009 and 2010 he's cycling from North America to the tip of South America. His journey will be shown in a BBC documentary in the spring. For now, this clip should give you a taster...
Trials bike riding is gaining in popularity - helped in part by multinational brands using bicycles in their television adverts. Volkswagen used top trials rider Danny Macaskill in a television advert for one of their cars...
Nicole Cooke has dominated women's road cycling for over a decade. This year she claimed her tenth British road race championship at the event in Abergavenny. The event also saw British riders claim second and third places. You can see the riders cross the line at about 4 minutes into this clip...
And last but not least, no clips show is complete without a blooper. Here's Jens Voigts nasty crash in this year's Tour de France. Be warned, it's quite nasty - good job he was wearing a helmet...
