New infrastructure plans up for consultation

Plans for several cycle-related improvements to Bristol's roads and pavements have been announced.

A4 Portway

The first proposal looks at a possible toucan crossing (signalised crossing - catering for both pedestrians and cyclists) on the A4 Portway, near Roman Way.

This crossing is being proposed to help pedestrians and cyclists cross the road safely and will be particularly useful for people waiting at the recently improved bus stop.

As part of this proposal, the speed limit will need to be reduced from 50mph to 40mph to aid the safe operation of the crossing.

Talbot Road

The second, on Talbot Road, forms an important link between Brislington (A4 Bath Road) and Knowle (A37 Wells Road). This proposal aims to improve access for cyclists in the area by creating a contra-flow cycle lane across the old railway bridge and segregated footway between the bridge and Hampstead Road.

Newfoundland Road

The third proposes several build-outs and shared use areas on Newfoundland Road, running parallel with the A4032, Newfoundland Way.
