Bike loan

Girl with loan bike

Thinking of starting to cycle? If so, here are some great loan bike offers available for people living, working or studying in the South West.

Bristol & South Glos - Loan Bike Scheme

Anyone who lives, works, or studies in Bristol or South Glos can borrow a good quality, fully-equipped bicycle, for free, for up to one month.

Take a look at the types of bike below and email for further details about loaning a bike.

You'll need to leave a deposit of £100 for hybrid and folding bikes or £250 for electric bikes in the form of cash or cheque, which is returnable if the bike comes back undamaged with all the accessories.

All bikes come with front and back lights, two locks, pump, speedometer, pannier rack and a pannier to put them all in. The pannier is big enough for lunch and a change of clothing as well.

Men and Ladies Hybrid Bikes

We have various good quality models of bike available for men from around 5ft4 and ladies from 5ft.

Classic hybrids combine a road bike frame and road wheels with MTB-style gear/brake levers and handlebars. The frames help make the bike light enough to ride uphill without too much effort (even if you're only moderately fit).

These bikes are perfect for city riding and leisurely cruises along country lanes. These bikes are designed to be functional, solid and reliable. The easy-to-use gears provide a smooth gear change and height adjustable seat and comfort grips make this bike comfortable enough for long journeys and fun enough to make the shortest trip worth cycling.

Folding Bikes

The light aluminium frame boasts Dahon's proven hinged mechanism, renowned for its reassuring 'clunk-click' closure. It's equipped with easy to use gears, a height adjustable seat, mudguards and a pannier rack.
Features include:

  • Folds and unfolds in 15 seconds
  • Folding pedals
  • Luggage rack
  • Alloy kickstand
  • Folds down to approx 85cm x 70cm x 35cm
  • One size but it's adjustable to suit almost anyone between 4' 10"' and over 6'

Electric Bikes

Electric bikes are great if there’s a route or commute you’d like to try but are put off by difficult hills or the distance seems a little bit too far to cycle the whole way. With an electric bike you get electrical assistance up to 15mph, and take some of the strain out of pedalling.

  • Battery range of 30-40 miles depending on terrain
  • Battery can be plugged in and charged from the mains in 4-6hrs
  • Comes equipped with all the standard equipment plus a track pump and control panel
