June 2011

Hello!

June marks the return of Bristol's biggest cycling event - now celebrating its 18th birthday. Taking place on Sunday 12th June, Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride gives you the chance to ride four different routes in and around Bristol.

But don't worry if you can't make this event, June is a bumper-packed month of biking fun, with more cycling events than you can shake a bicycle pump at! Read on to find out what's happening this month....

Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride

Fun for the whole family guaranteed. Choose from the hills and quiet country lanes of the Clevedon Challenge, the medium distance leisure ride to Portishead or the traffic-free roads of the Family Fiesta and the Avon Gorge Loop.

Online registration closes at midday on Monday 6th June so get your registration in today. It only takes a minute and is absolutely FREE.

Already registered? Send the registration link to your friends before it's too late.

Bikefest is back in Bristol

Between Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June Ashton Court will once again become a mecca for mountain bikers as Ritchey Bikefest 2011 draws hundreds of visitors to one of the best mountain biking destinations in the region. Pop along to soak up the atmosphere and watch riders race laps of the gruelling off-road course.

Whilst you're there, don't forget to check out the latest work to improve the mountain bike trails in the area.

Prizes up for grabs for best Bristol-themed cycle jersey designs

Those generous chaps at Push Bikewear in Bristol are giving away five cycling jerseys to the person who comes up with the best Bristol-themed jersey design, plus four jerseys to the runners up. If you're proud to live and cycle in Bristol, let's see what inspirational ideas you can come up with.

Handmade Bike Show comes to Bristol Paintworks

Don't want a bike like everyone else? In which case, head to the Paintworks between Saturday June 11th and Sunday June 12th (after you've taken part in Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride) and see the unique bikes on display from 18 of the top international frame builders at Bristol Handmade and Boutique Bike Show.

The return of Dinotaur

Now in its second year, Dinotaur, the Family Cycle Treasure Hunt, returns to Bristol-Bath Railway Path on Sunday 19th June between 10am until 3pm. It's the perfect event to turn those little blighters into little bikers!

Bath Ales charity bike ride for local hospital

Local brewery Bath Ales is also organising an event on Bristol-Bath Railway Path on Sunday 19th June. You can take part in one of three bike rides along railway path all ending with a BBQ at their brewing plant in Warmley. All rides are in aid of Frenchay After Burns Children's Club.

Two Bristol biking events announced as part of National Bike Week

Bristol is once again hosting a World Naked Bike Ride event to highlight the vulnerability of cyclists on our streets. Bring your bike (and not much else) to the aptly-named Full Moon pub in Stokes Croft on Sunday, 19th June for a 1.30pm start.

Once you've recovered from that, pop on down to the free Bike & Walk Picnic on College Green on Thursday 23rd June, from 11am until 2pm. Plenty of free activities for cyclists, plus lots of help and advice if you're looking to rely less on horse power and more on pedal power.

In other news this month...

And finally...

This month two inspirational cyclists from Bristol have been in touch to tell us about their fund-raising exploits by bike:

Best of luck to both. If you're taking part in an inspirational cycle challenge, why not drop us a line and share your story.

Thanks for reading. Until next month...

Happy cycling!
