Want to do you bit to make your town cycling friendly? Aside from making lots of journeys by bike and riding with respect for other road users, there are some other easy things you can do to help:

1. Tell others about cycling in Bristol

E-mail your family, friends or colleagues and tell them about the Better By Bike website and all the good reasons to start cycling.

Suggest that they sign up for the Better By Bike e-bulletin so they can find out about the latest news.

In Bristol it's estimated that 33,000 people are now cycling regularly. Cycling rates are on the rise in quite a dramatic fashion. We see approximately 2,400 new cyclists a year - that's six and a half every day!

2. Read up!

Getting more people to start cycling isn't a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. People have lots of different motivations for cycling. We're trying to keep you up to date with 'stories from the streets'. Check out the blogs on this website plus research from Dr Adrian Davis if you want to know more.

If you're inspired, why not write-up too - we might even publish your article on our blog!

3. Tweet us

Use the Twitter facility at the bottom of any page to share this website with your social network. But don't stop there though:

4. Downloads and postcards

Download, print and stick up our cycling images wherever you can. Pick up some posters and leave them in shops, schools, pubs, restaurants and anywhere else! Email us to see what's available.

Lots of our resources are also available on the Downloads page.

5. Media

Encourage the local media to support the work we're doing. Write letters to magazines and newspapers encouraging them to run articles about cycling.

We can provide them with all the information they need but we can't control editorial decisions - only their readers can. If you have an idea for an article, write to your local newspaper, magazine or TV station and encourage them to feature cycling more often.

6. Talks

Do you know of a group that might like a talk on cycling? We're happy to come and share the news about why everyone is talking about cycling.

7. "On yer bike"

But don't forget, the most important thing you can do is to make more journeys by bike - and encourage others to do so as well. The more people cycling, the better it is for everyone.

If you have any other quick and simple ideas to help promote cycling drop us a line at cycling.city@bristol.gov.uk and share your idea! If you'd like to get more involved in shaping the cycle provision in your area find out about your next Bike Forum on our website.
