Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
Recently we told you about Henry Rolls' cycle to Morocco for Medicine Sans Frontiers. Henry, who lives in North Bristol, has raised over £1700 so far and that's set to rise even further this Friday (5th February) as he starts on his epic journey to Africa's northern tip.
Anyone setting out on a journey of this magnititude will know just how much planning it involves (this blogger will find out exactly how much in May). A quick mental check list reminds me that Henry must have had his bike to sort, panniers to pack (and repack), accommodation to book, routes to plan, ferries to book, not to mention responding to publicity calls and messages from well-wishers.
Best laid plans are often revised because someone has said to not travel on this or that particular road. Or a mechanical failure has halted training. And all this before any of the troubles and trials that the ride itself brings.
You can keep up to date with Henry's travels by reading his blog at: www.travelblog.com/09/?membername=henryrolls. If you'd like to sponsor Henry you can find out more at his Just Giving page: http://www.justgiving.com/henryrolls
Stories like this just go to show what's possible by bike. Will Henry's journey inspire you to get on your bike more? Let us know below if you're planning for or you've been on a multi-day bicycle journey.
