Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
Join us for a cycle tour of significant sites linked to critic and historian John Addington Symonds. Born in Clifton in 1840, Symonds was an early advocate for the legitimacy of same-sex love. The two-hour cycle tour will cover about thirteen miles at a snail's pace stopping at each site for a short talk.
This event is CycleOut Bristol's contribution to the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual & trans) History Month Programme 2012 for Bristol and Bath. See OutStories Bristol for further information: http://outstoriesbristol.org.uk/
This tour will finish one hour before Andy Foyle's Mystery History Walk of LGBT significant sites in central Bristol. You'll have time for lunch between events.
Gemma will be leading you on this ride (please note the later start time of 11am).
The group will always stop to help with any mechanical failures during the ride but please try and remember to bring along spare inner tubes and a puncture repair kit.
The ride will will depart at 11am from Queen Square, Bristol BS1 4TR. Meet by the King William Statue in the centre of the Square (or outside Graze Bar on the corner, if access to the Square is restricted for any reason).
CycleOut Bristol is the local, cycling branch of the Gay Outdoor Club. All welcome on LGBT-friendly rides. For further information see http://goc.org.uk/groups/cycling/bristol
