Thinking about becoming a cycle champion?

Business champion

If you're looking at this page, you might already be thinking about becoming a Cycle Champion and helping to promote cycling to your work colleagues. The best way to get more people cycling is to have someone they know explain how wonderful it is, which is where you come in.

This page will tell you a bit more about the scheme and how Bristol City Council can help you.

Helping others

You probably already know how beneficial cycling is, how fit and healthy you feel, how much money you save, the time you save not standing on a bus stop or sitting in a traffic jam, and how easy it is to keep the weight off! So why not help other people gain those massive benefits?

Signing up

It's easy to sign up, just have a chat with your manager and find out if they want a fitter, healthier more productive workforce that takes less time off sick, and tell them that you can help deliver it.

What does it involve?

Being a Cycle Champion won't take too much time, you'll be passing on your knowledge and giving advice, maps and leaflets to people who are interested in trying cycling. Most new cyclists just want to know what kind of bike would suit their journey, and how to plan their route. We're always on the end of a phone if you come across a really knotty problem, or drop us an email - we're here to help.

The small amount of time to do this will be amply repaid by the fitter, healthier more productive team your manager will have working for them. What's more, everything we supply is free!

Some of the things we can supply are:

  • maps and leaflets
  • roadshows with cycling advisors
  • Dr Bike maintenance sessions
  • subsidised cycle training
  • lunchtime maintenance lessons
  • a cycle audit of your workplace
  • pool bikes
  • toolkits and track pumps

When you're ready to sign up, email us and we'll set the wheels in motion. We usually come around for a chat and to see what the potential is and exactly what you need.

What's in it for us?

We want to see more people commuting by bike, as it reduces pollution, congestion, danger and makes our city a better place to live, and the more people who cycle, the safer it becomes.

You'll be doing your colleagues a favour, improving the efficiency of your organisation, saving the planet and making cycling safer!
