Charity cycle event at Ashton Court

Cyclists in the Bristol area are being urged to sign up and set their wheels in motion to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research at the Bristol Bikeathon on Sunday, 30 May 2010 - spring bank holiday weekend.

Over 150 riders are expected to take part in the event at Ashton Court and turn their pedal power into cash to help fund vital research in Leukaemia, Lymphoma and other blood cancers.

Bikeathon organiser Jo Bray said: “The Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Bikeathon is a perfect opportunity to out, get fit and join in the fight against blood cancers, which affect thousands of people in the UK each year.

"We haven’t held the event in Bristol for a number of years but on our 50th anniversary we have brought it back to the city. We hope it’s going to be a fun day out for everyone.”

It is hoped that thousands of pounds will be raised by the event through money sponsored by friends and family of the cyclists.

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research are also asking for local businesses to join in by organising mass cycle rides or corporate days out.

The event starts and finishes at the beautiful Ashton Court Estate and the route promises to be a stunning tour through the park and the picturesque country lanes of the surrounding area.

Riders have the choice of two distances, 14 or 28 miles, and can either register in advance or register on the day. The event is suitable for riders of all ages.

Riders registering in advance receive a fundraising pack with hints and tips on how to make the most of fundraising opportunities , along with a free t-shirt and a commemorative medal to remember the day.
