Bristol Bike Project celebrates its 300th donated bicycle

Bristol Bike Project are celebrating fixing up and giving out their 300th refurbished bicycle to vulnerable people in the community.

The Bristol Bike Project started in December of 2008 after project founders James Lucas and Colin Fan were inspired to set up a charitable bike project while cycling their way through Scandanavia.

The idea is simple they take in unwanted bicycles from the general public and go about fixing them up with the help of our service-users who require a bicycle. They then get to take their bicycle away with a quality lock and set of lights provided by The Cycling City Project

The Project always work directly with their service-users, helping them help themselves and teaching them new skills in the process.

To coincide with Bristol's first Cycling Festival, the Project are planning a group ride for volunteers, service-users and anyone that is interested in the project or has donated a bicycle to join them for a short circular ride around Bristol, taking in Ashton court and Durdham Downs. The ride will start outside the workshop on City Road at 11am on Saturday 11th September.

Boneshaker magazine issue 2, created by members and friends of the Bristol Bike Project, is a real celebration of cycling and now available internationally. Grab a copy for £3.50 at the arnolfini, here shop, Bike, Strada Cycles, Howies, Bristol Bike Workshop & Stanfords if you live in Bristol or consult the stockists page on their website.
