Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
The Cycling City project has organised Bristol's first Bike to School week, taking place between September 13th and 17th 2010.
Seventeen schools (and counting) have requested promotional packs this summer and over 3000 children are set to join in when schools re-start this September.
Bike to School week is open to primary and secondary schools. Each school taking part will receive:
In the build-up to Bike to School week a bike fun day is planned for Saturday 11th September at the CREATE Centre, which is accessible on traffic-free cycle paths from the city centre and Ashton Court.
Children attending will be able to decorate their bikes, take part in cycle races, Dr Bike sessions and a led ride on some new Cycling City cycle paths, as well as getting the chance to try out a number of wacky bikes and bikes for all abilities.

There are Dr bike sessions at libraries across South Gloucestershire this summer to help kids get on their bikes for Bike to School week.
