Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
Bike Club is a new cycling project that aims to give children and young people aged 10–20 in the south-west the chance to try cycling in out-of-school environments.
Bike Club grants are now available to give funding and support for groups and schools working with young people who want to develop a tailored cycling programme according to the needs of their young people.
Bike Club is run by UKYouth,ContinYou and CTC - the UK’s national cyclists’ organisation. It is specifically targeting young people who might not have access to other cycling programmes, and aims to be as inclusive as possible, providing opportunities for disabled young people along with young people from minority ethnic groups and low income backgrounds.
Grant forms are available at http://bikeclub.org.uk/resources/ and the next deadline for applications is Monday, 25 January 2010.
Lizzie Evered, Bike Club officer for Bristol and Exeter said: "This is a great chance for youth workers and volunteers across Greater Bristol to get access to equipment and training that can help run fun things on bikes."
Any interested parties are also advised to contact their local Bike Club development officer to discuss eligibility. More information about Bike Club can be found on the Better By Bike pages.
